AHA Records: Most PIMs and PIMs/GP- Player

AHAers,

I’ve been meaning to since the creation of this blog to start having posts about various AHA Records. Most goals in a game by a team (by a player), best/worst record in a season, most goals/points in a season, etc… I need to just start posting about them as they come up. If you want to know any stat, feel free to post in the comments. You can click the new link above to see a list of records as I post them, or click the category tag on the right side to see the various posts.

At the recent AHA captain’s meeting, as well as a recent disciplinary committee, the topic of the AHA addendum came up regarding the 40/60/80 rule where you’re suspended 2/3/4 games. It got me thinking, not only would it be hard to get 80 PIMs within a 20 game season, but considering you’d also serve 5 games for hitting 40 and 60 as well, it’d be really hard to hit 80 PIMs within 15 games. I wondered if anyone within the AHA history has hit it (at least since 2011/2012 winter season)? (Thankfully) No one has received 80 PIMs in a season, though we have had some heavy PIM recipients.

Keep reading to see the record for:

  • Most PIMs by a Player in a Season
  • Highest PIMs/GP by a Player in a Season (min. 10 GP)

Since the 2011-2012 Winter Season:

  • 69 people have hit the 40 PIM mark
  • It quickly goes down as only 11 people have received over 50 PIMs over a season and only 2 people have hit the 60 PIMs in a season:
    • #18 K. Kelley hit 62 PIMs in 10 games played with the Miners in B1 during the 2015/2016 Winter Season
      • Mainly got there through not one, not two, but three game ejections (10-minutes), one of which came with a 10 minute misconduct (Game 7230, 7633, 7939)
      • Though he doesn’t have record for most PIMs in an AHA season, his insane 6.20 PIMs/GP is the record for PIMs/GP.
        • So far this season he’s dropped considerably to only a 1.56 PIMs / GP
    • #37 J. Knoll hit has the Most PIMs record with an amazing 67 PIMs in 14 games played with the Black Ice in C3 during last year’s 2016/2017 Winter Season.
      • 16 2-minute minor penalties;
      • 1 5-minute for roughing penalty;
      • 2 10-minute misconduct penalties; and
      • 1 Game Misconduct (10 minutes).
      • Though he had 14 games played, all penalties were received in only half of those games: Game 9013, 9077, 9131, 9276, 9583, 9676, 9866
      • Thankfully for the rest of us, it doesn’t appear Knoll has played in the AHA since last year’s playoffs.

I will try to periodically post various AHA records an analysis. Let me know if you want anything specific.
