Mid-Season Update

AHAers,

The winter season is in gear, and the outdoor parks are almost open for some training and free ice time. Current stat sheets are only updated through the end of the 2016 Summer season. I’ll be updating all stat sheets around the middle of the winter season when hopefully all or at least most teams have played 10 games. If I have some extra time around the holidays, I may get the updating going a bit early. This update will also then include the short 2016 Fall League stats as well.

Happy holidays to all,

Stay Tuned: Updates Are A Comin’

AHAers,

The 2016-2017 Winter Season is fast approaching. I personally can’t wait, but I’m also excited for the Bloomington Fall Tournament (Twin Cities Classic) and the Duluth Fall Tournament (Duluth Classic). Les Etoiles du Nord will be well represented in both tournaments. We’ve grown by one, and now have three teams (C1/C3/D2) going into this coming Winter Season. Stop by the tournaments and say hi, let me know what you think of the blog.

I plan on updating the stat spreadsheets the first weekend of September after the Summer League playoffs are done on August 28th. The new update will have all the game stats from Spring League and Summer League. It’ll all be ready for all of your scouting needs come this winter.

As always, spread the word around the league and leave some comments on the blog.

‘Unofficial’ AHA C3 All-Star Game (2015-2016 Winter Season)

Fellow AHAers and Adult Hockey fans,

Les Etoiles du Nord is hosting an ‘Unofficial’ C3 All-Star game on Friday, March 25th at Richfield Ice Arena at 7:30 PM. We encourage all C3ers to come root on your fellow teammates who have earned their coveted all-star status. All AHAers and anyone who is interested is welcome to come enjoy the game.

It should be a fun competitive game to watch, and there will surely be some AHA regular season stories and AHA playoff predictions shared in the locker room, in the stands, and next door at the American Legion pub following the game.

All-Star Roster/Teams and additional information is in the .pdf file linked below.

We hope to see you all there,

3/28 Update: C3 All-Star Game Pictures via Dropbox.com

Mid-Season Update coming soon..

AHAers,

It looks like most teams have at least played 10 games so far in the 2015-2016 winter season of AHA. I have begun pulling the game data from the 772 games that have been played so far. Look for updated Team Standings and Player Statistics spreadsheets this weekend I hope, or next week at the latest.

I’m also sending out All-Star ballots tomorrow for C3 division for an ‘unofficial’ AHA C3 All-Star game put on by Du Nord. So a busy weekend, not to mention a big game for Du Nord C3 against Ak Bars this evening.

Keep spreading the word and providing feedback.

Status Update

AHAers,

Team Standings Spreadsheet Updates:

Fall Tournament this weekend was a blast! Not all of the games have been posted on AHA.Com as of Monday morning. As soon as the league does, I’ll get that updated in the spreadsheet. So look for that later this week.

Player Stats Spreadsheet Updates:

I didn’t make much progress this weekend with all the fall tourney games and drinking in the parking lot. I made some progress earlier in the week though. I’m hoping to still meet my goal of releasing it by the end of the month.

Thanks everyone for the positive response to the blog. Please keep sharing and giving me feedback.

The Plan

The Game Data: AHAHockey.com only has game data from October 27th, 2011 to present. The league has stated they do have all of game data for the league, which I would love to get my hands on, but for now this project will only entail game data from the 2011-2012 winter season to present. This includes all AHA leagues (Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall) and Tournaments (Fall) that AHA posts game data onto their website. I have been able to pull all of the game data that AHA hosts on the game results pages for each game. This includes Goals, Penalties, Shots, Goalie, and Attendance data for almost 7,000 AHA games and counting.

The AHA Hockey Community: I am hoping that this project will be useful for not only myself and Les Étoiles du Nord, but to the AHA hockey community at large. I encourage everyone to pass the word along within your team and within your AHA hockey network. It’d be awesome to have people from A division to D2 division using this. When you pass the word along, I recommend providing them a link to this blog (https://AHAHistoricStats.wordpress.com) so they can get all updates. The only thing I ask is you give Les Étoiles du Nord and myself credit.

Please contact me with feedback. If there’s a correction or glitch, let me know. If you have questions or recommendations, that’s cool too. Post a comment on the blog or simply e-mail me at SteveReedAnderson@Gmail.com.

Phase One: This weekend, I hope to release the first fruits of my labor. It will be a team standings spreadsheet that will allow anyone to look up team stats from any team that has played in AHA. You’ll be able to Continue reading

Welcome!

Welcome fellow AHA players and teams,

About Du Nord: I joined AHA through the Beginner Program during the 2013-2014 Winter Season with my friend Mark Gilmer. Together with our new hockey teammates in beginner we created Les Étoiles du Nord. This translates into ‘The Stars of the North,’ but some translations convert to ‘The French North Stars,’ or ‘The French Toilets.’ All of them work for us.

Like most beginner teams, we moved up to D2 the following year (2014-2015 Winter Season). At the same time, some friends of the team wanted in on the action and joined the 2014-2015 Winter Season’s Beginner Program. Through this relationship, an ‘affiliate’ Du Nord team was created. Going into the 2015-2016 Winter Season, the two Du Nord teams have merged and have formed a C3 and a D2 team. We’re looking forward to the coming season and hoping to expand our ‘Empire’ and have additional teams in the future.

About Myself: Hockey was the one sport I never tried growing up, but always wanted to. I worked part-time for the Wild during and after college (2006-2013) and became a bigger fan of the sport. When Gilmer and I heard about AHA through a coworker who played with the Anchors during their beginner season, we were sold. Over the last two years, I’ve become a ‘hockey rube.’ I typically skate twice a week through JMS at Apple Valley/Burnsville plus whatever AHA league is going on.

I’m a self-described ‘data/spreadsheet dork.’ I went to the U of MN and majored in econ with a minor in math. I’ve always enjoyed numbers and problem solving. I currently lead a Financial Analytics team in the pharmaceuticals industry where I get to play with data all day long. The AHA Historical Stats project has been a side-project that has been a fun challenge and has gotten me to learn new excel skills like VBA programming.

About the Project: The first two years I served as captain for Du Nord and got to sit in on the AHA captains’ meetings. It seemed like almost every meeting, someone asked the league about having historical stats. The league would recognize the demand for it, say it’s a Continue reading
